Vessel and Crew

Sailing from island to island on a traditional Turkish wooden gulet, known as a caicco in Italian and kayik in Turkish, we will discover the jewels of volcanic origin now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site from a whole new perspective on this breathtaking cruise around the Aeolian Islands in the heart of the Mediterranean.

Our gulet sailboat is 24.5 meters (80ft 5in) long and 6.25 meters (20ft 6in) wide and was built with ancient techniques still in use today. It is made completely of pine and mahogany wood, with an Iroko deck. The boat is rigged with two steel masts and two booms, for a total of approximately 200 square meters (2,153 square feet) of sail. Its structure gives it excellent seaworthiness and ensures maximum comfort during navigation.

The caicco offers air conditioning throughout the covered area and is equipped with a fridge, freezer, dishwasher and independent power generator. The spaces available are very comfortable, with a wonderful solarium, comfortable cabins for 2 with large bathroom and shower, and aft platform with a spacious lounge.

The Captain, Salvatore (father), is originally from Salina, one of the islands we’ll be exploring (Anna’s favorite). He is an old sea dog that has been roaming the Mediterranean since the age of 15. For 20 years, he was a fishing boat captain, sailing the waters of Spain, Tunisia and Greece. He brings nautical experience and knowledge of the most awe-inspiring locations of the Aeolian Islands.

His son, Angelo, is the First Sailor.  Angelo has been sailing since 2001 and also brings hospitality experience and a background in Food & Beverage. He will be there for any need.

The young and talented chef, Vanessa (daughter), has gifted hands and will indulge us with dishes of the Aeolian tradition made according to recipes handed down to her by mother Assunta. We will sample a genuine simple cuisine primarily consisting of fish and shellfish paired with excellent Sicilian wines.
